Struggle

Video

This is the first (music) video I directed! It’s about a stressed out man finding himself in this surreal setting. Objects are starting to move and cover his whole body. After a moment in the dark he finally breaks free!

Part of the concept was to use a lot of different techniques. So there’s stop motion, live action and an abstract sequence followed by this cool ending which is made with only photos.

Title sequence “de Camera”

Video

I made this title sequence for a fictitious remake of a Dutch movie. I chose “het Zakmes” (Penknife) and changed it into “de Camera”. I also changed the genre of the movie, from family/drama to teenage/comedy.

The movie is about a boy who took his best friend’s camera home with him by accident. Throughout the movie he tries to give it back to him, but he just can’t seem to get a hold of him due to very unrealistic and comedic situations.

In the title sequence you mostly see him chilling in his room, watching tv and making his homework. At the very end he finds a camera in his backpack. He has already the same one on his desk, which makes him realize he took his friend’s camera.

I wanted to create a photographic look, by playing with the contrasts and colors. I also used a lot of grain, also to refer to a (bad) camera. The animations are a simplistic way to symbolize a video tape or a photo collage. The colors also remind me of lomography. And pop music is used to serve the young audience as the remake is supposed to be a lot like those mtv reality series.

Second research video where I talk about a dream I had (in Dutch!), supported with some animations.
